We would like to give you a very warm welcome to our church and community. We are a vibrant, loving, child-friendly, inclusive parish within the catholic Anglican tradition of the Church of England in Central Barnet. We have a multi-generational congregation which reflects the cultural diversity of London life. We offer a traditional, friendly and relaxed approach to worship. We are noted for being toddler-tolerant and children are central to our church.
Our vision at St John’s is to develop a caring community with a vibrant all-age worshipping congregation that is compassionate to the needs of our community. We wish to be as creative as possible to show the people of Whetstone that God loves them and that we care for them.
Praise and thanksgiving are at the heart of all we do and we encourage our neighbours and community to join us in our fellowship activities.
St John the Apostle Church, 1163 High Road, Whetstone, London, N20 0PG
We look forward to welcoming you back to all to our regular weekly worship as we open up and get back to normal as much as possible.
The Sunday 9:00 am service will NOT be available on Zoom.
The Sunday 10:30 service will be relayed on Zoom as will the Wednesday 10:30 am service for the time being. We will monitor the Zoom attendance over the next few months.
Please note the seating arrangements in the church are as follows:
There is now no need to reserve a pew place in services so you can turn up as you wish BUT please note the advice below. Stewards will be on hand to assist visitors and we will provide “social distance” seat placements for your use, so that visitors who wish to maintain a distance can "disable" the seat next to them.
- The North side (car park side) of the church to be opened up completely with no social distancing. This will allow for more people to attend should they wish to do so.
- The South side (gazebo side) of the church remains in socially distanced fashion for the pews at the back - the front pews will be opened up completely
TRACK AND TRACE
It is up to you whether you scan the NHS QR code at the entrance of the church (see attached). If you do not have this facility, youi can write your name and contact number on the list provided at the welcome desk.
The latest advice is that face coverings are not mandatory. However, we are also advised to take precautions against any possible spread of Covid in an enclosed area. We therefore suggest that you continue to wear a face mask when attending at the church.
Likewise we suggest that you continue to sanitise your hands upon entering the church.
The service sheet will continue to be sent out by email weekly. In order to cut down the number of service sheets we need to print and handle in church please endeavour to print off if you are able and bring your own service sheets if possible. A limited number of copies will be available in church. The entire service will also be screened so that you can follow without a service sheet.
COMMUNION & VOTIVE CANDLES
The London Diocese also suggests that prior to taking communion you should sanitise your hands. Additionally, we will suggest the presiding priest uses intinction of host with provision that the celebrant uses a separate cup from that used to intinct for the communicants to reduce cross contamination. Communicants can request the sacrament in one kind if preferred. Instructions for celebrant will be provided. Likewise, when lighting a votive candle.
